Growing up in a typical African home, I learnt that some chores are meant for the girls and women while others are meant for the men.
But as I grew older, I began to notice a reversal of roles. Some call it western influence, some call it development, while others would call it pure madness.
We find in some homes these days that the woman is the bread winner. In others, men help their wives out in the kitchen to wash and clean. Lots of women are great drivers; while lots of men are excellent cooks and hairdressers… I could go on and on about different things men and women weren’t doing before, but do now.
However, today, I’d like us to focus on the kitchen and domestic work. Is it ‘proper’ for a man to do the dishes and cook at home regularly? Remember, the emphasis is on regularly, I don’t mean just helping his wife out once in a while. If a man loves to cook and clean, should he stop doing it simply because he is married and now has a wife?

its really important to initiate ‘division of labour ‘ in the family. the home chores can be done by both the husband and the wife.

I totally disagree with the idea of a guy doing such chores on a regular basis. While he does the chores, what will his wife be doing?

There is nothing wrong in it BUT studies have shown that 95% of women abuse the previlage.

I really think it doesn’t hurt to help out. I was raised in a very traditional African home and I may not want my husband to do anything, but to play devil’s advocate and answer the question in reverse, should a woman go to work and bring in the bacon when she has a husband?
RichieMay 8, 2015 at 8:02 pm
The bible says God created women as a ‘HELPmate’..*emphasis on help*,
Its only in this part of the world where it is SOMEBODY’S JOB to do certain things….
Anybody can do any house chores Abeg&Uche monalisa…,It is also biblical that any man that can take care of his family is an infidel..why have a family if you can’t take care of them?

I certainly would not have had this. Much love for my mother if she didn’t Play her role as a finest African woman.I tell My sisters everyday I will get your husband on their track if they miss treat you girls but remember all the things our mum did to our dad.Even when my mum started earning more than my dad she was still the woman.

There’s nothing wrong on a Regular basis. After all they are Partners, they have to Partner in everything, but never the less, considering the Society that we were raised in that dictates for us our roles in our home, When a man helps out regularly, its romantic and he will be seen as considerate that wouldn’t want to leave the whole chores for his wife to handle. But let the wifes Beware and not take advantage of the situation.
