One important thing I learnt from hosting the Orekoya’s on the Make Me Fabulous Show Family Edition is that children value quality time spent with their parents much more than their parents realize.
Unfortunately for most parents, the hectic demands of their everyday lives in trying to meet up with the needs of the family disturbs such family time. When parents get back home from work, children are already asleep. The balance is distorted and relationships are affected.
To curb this, here are 5 cool things I think families should do together more often:
Eat Together!
It sounds simple, but lots of families don’t eat their meals together anymore. Members of the same family have different schedules and different meal times which affects this healthy culture. Try eat more meals with your loved ones more often and watch the bond grow stronger.
Homework Help
Helping your child or siblings with their homework assignments is a great way to not only get better grades, but to spend quality time together.
Quiet Time
In many homes where the entire family says their prayers together, you find a stronger bond between the siblings and a greater sense of respect among the family members.
Sports & Games
Shouting, laughing, winning – these are just a few things that will happen when members of the same family play together. There’s nothing like a little friendly competition to find out what tricks your family members may have up their sleeves.
Read Together
Kids love stories, whether you’ve made them up or are reading a book. Reading to your child at the end of the day provides excellent bonding. Many families find that bedtime is the only chance they have to catch up with the goings-on in their children’s lives.
How do you ensure you spend quality time with your family despite your busy schedule?
