To add a little insight, today is mothering sunday and not mother’s day. Difference here is that while mothering sunday is a UK christian holiday which comes up on every fouth sunday in lent- mid lent (which happens to be today); mother’s day on the other hand is a US holiday which comes up on every second sunday in May. So, it’s actually mothering sunday today!

Secularly it became an occasion for honouring mothers of children and giving them presents.[1] It is increasingly being called Mothers’ Day, although that holiday has other origins.[1] In the UK it is celebrated in the same way as Mothers’ Day is celebrated elsewhere.
