Hey lovelies,<\/p>\n

Welcome to a new week!<\/p>\n

Last Thursday, I was opportune to be a keynote speaker at the \u2018African Child Campaign<\/strong>\u2019 organized by the Canadian High Commission in Abuja where I\u00a0spoke alongside the Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Perry John Calderwood<\/strong> under the theme \u201cEmpowering African girls to reach their full potential by delaying marriage and staying in school<\/strong><\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n

The two-part event included a the screening of Africa\u2019s Best Overall Movie \u2018DRY<\/strong>\u2019 and a Press Conference where myself\u00a0and the Canadian High Commissioner highlighted the efforts we’ve\u00a0have been employing to enable African women and girls reach their full potential, free from coercion, discrimination and violence.<\/p>\n

Some highlights of my remarks included\u00a0the need for educating the African Child and how DRY has been shifting conversations around the world, thereby shinning the spotlight on the African girl-child. \u00a0Here is an excerpt:<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we watch this movie and as we discuss here today, let it be foremost in our minds that the education of girls, especially the most marginalized, is key to their survival & that of the future generation.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Canadian High Commissioner also reiterated the Canadian government\u2019s commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls and highlighted some of their recent campaign efforts in Nigeria and other African countries.<\/p>\n

The movie was well received by members of the press, staff of the Canadian High Commission and all invited guests who lauded DRY,\u00a0a world-class movie which is being used as a tool to create awareness about the plight of the African Child.<\/p>\n
