For as long as I can remember, Nelson Mandela has always been one of the world’s most respected leaders. I grew up with everyone around me, and I mean EVERYONE having nothing but kind words, admiration and respect for this great man.
It is very unusual to find a man so loved and respected by people from many nations.
This is someone who emerged from 27 years in apartheid prisons bearing so little malice. “As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom, I knew if I didn’t leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I’d still be in prison,” Mandela said after he was freed in 1990. Such a rare, forgiving heart!
Mandela is known for many great things. He led South Africa’s transition from white-minority rule in the 1990s, after 27 years in prison for his political activities.
Many tributes have been pouring in for the late leader since he passed on some hours ago, but one that really sticks to my mind is that of his fellow campaigner against apartheid, Archbishop Desmond Tutu who said he was “not only an amazing gift to humankind, he made South Africans and Africans feel good about being who we are. He made us walk tall. God be praised.”
An icon has gone to rest and he will truly be missed. Rest In Peace Sir. You truly were an icon, a freedom fighter, a role model, a great leader and much more.
When you think of Mandela, what words come to mind? Describe him in a few words.

December 9, 2013 at 11:23 pmAfrica and the world has lost a great leader. Nelson Mandela was a true definition of leadership. just few days ago i was watching on youtube, an eleven year old’s (BOTHALE) performance during S.A’s got talent in honor of Madiba. towards the end she said Madiba has made them proudly South African; but i say he has made us Proudly African…may his gentle soul rest in peace
